The Gaza crisis continues

Although, there is currently a lull in the attacks on Gaza, the crisis is far from over. For one thing, although Israel called a "unilateral ceasfire" on 17th January, it was not what most people understand by a ceasefire. So, six days afterwards, the Israeli Navy were reported to have shelled areas near the Egyptian border and the Al-Shati refugee camp (Menassat).

Also, Gaza has been devastated. Hamas have estimated that 20,000 houses will need to be rebuilt. There is an urgent need for aid so that people can start to recreate their shattered lives. Shamefully, the BBC refused to air an appeal from the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) because they feel it may damage their "impartiality" (BBC News). We have seen, of course, what BBC "impartiality" amounts to: a tacit support of the Israeli line

What we are calling for:

• Israel must end the blockade
• Our governments must end arms sales to Israel
• Palestine must be freed
• The war criminals must be brought to justice

It is essential to keep the plight of the Palestinian people in the public eye. Please do what you can: write to your MP or MEP, send letters to newspapers or call in to radio phone-ins, and join us in our activities.
